The governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, confirmed that the mayor of Santa María Huatulco, Julio Cárdenas, was involved in a car accident and stated that the incident is already being investigated by the Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office. Additionally, at his press conference on Monday, the governor asked for respect for the injured people, including the influencer Dulce Enríquez, who also became a victim of the accident. Jara explained that the accident occurred when the mayor was traveling to the city of Barranca after leaving Huatulco. "There was an accident with the mayor, Julio Cárdenas, of Huatulco, (…) we regret this incident very much," he said, and emphasized that these are events that "cannot be foreseen" and about which there is still no conclusive information. The state governor indicated that the prosecutor's office is already conducting the investigation and will provide more details as the inquiries progress. He added that, in general, it is necessary to exercise extreme caution when traveling on state roads and highways. Jara also related the context of the accident to the weather conditions recorded in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region, where, he said, winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour have been recorded. He mentioned that in the community of La Ventosa, in Barranca, classes were suspended at Technical Secondary School 113 due to strong winds, which caused damage to infrastructure and affected vehicles and workshops. Regarding the health status of those involved, the governor reported that the driver has already been discharged from the hospital. Regarding the mayor, he said that he contacted state authorities to notify that he was leaving. As for Dulce Enríquez, he stated that she remains hospitalized and is recovering, after it was reported on social networks that she had died in the accident. Finally, Jara called for prudence in the public handling of the case. "I would only ask for respect for the young woman (...) for the family, for anyone who might have an accident," he expressed, considering that there have been "very incorrect" attitudes regarding the dissemination of the fact, although he did not clarify why she was traveling with the mayor. On January 9, Mayor Julio Cárdenas, through his social networks, issued a statement on a municipal letterhead, informing that he suffered an accident while traveling to the city of Oaxaca, after participating in the celebration of the 487th anniversary of the municipality's titling. Unfortunately, during the transfer, I suffered an accident with the van I was traveling in; the people traveling with me received immediate medical attention, just as I did. Cárdenas assured that he is stable and thanked the expressions of support received. "Thank God, I am stable and out of danger, receiving the corresponding attention."
